Stockartist is a conceptual, interactive and participative art project that consist in a new business model for the fine art world. The business model proposed by Stockartist was build taking parts of different economic models: comunism, socialism, capitalism and alternative economies like: parecon. This model consider the Internet as an important part in the next phase of the development of the artmarket that’s why is hybrid (online and offline).
Stockartist use a special kind of artworks, the Internet and a network of institutions to approach contemporary art to a bigger number of people and change the way how art is saw, sold and understand. Inside of this art market running parallel and intersected with the actual one, artists behave as a companies in a Stock Exchange Market. Every artist in order to participate on the model has to create a special kind of artwork in form of a pool of shares called “artstocks”. This artwork consisting of a minimum of one houndred pieces represent him in the Stockartist environment. “Artstocks” are objects created by an artist with specific physicall characteristics like: size, weight and price. This means that “artstocks” are created to be easily transportable with a launching price afordable for many people (between 1 and 95 Euros).
“Artstocks” are sold, buyed, auctioned and interchanged on the Stockartist website in a interactive game environment. Stockartist provide a environment on Internet mixing social networking, online auction and stock exchange mechanims using a top Web 2.0 technology. Every artist or collector maintain a webpage with all its information, opinions, artworks, “artstocks”, etc. in a multiple way communication. “Artstocks” are also promoted, sold and showed in an international network of institutions working like “brokers” of the artstocks. “Artstocks” is also a way to facilitate the insertion of dematerialized art (like: Netart, performance, action, audio, video, etc.) in the market, in this way they can work as a certificates that represent the value of another artworks.
Stockartist is considerer a way to deconstruct old and construct new paradigms in the actual artmarket, separating the commoditization and ethereal parts of the art. Is an inivtation to questioning the importance of the institutional world in the meaning of the art. Also to find alternative ways to make art available to a bigger number of people and make its decision important in the price of an artwork and the trascendence of an artist.
